Every year one Pride is nominated by other member Prides to receive the title UK Pride for the year.
"UK PRIDE is the celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) solidarity throughout United Kingdom. It is for every person (LGBT, other and allies) in Britain and aims to promote diversity, equal rights and inclusion for all as well as the variety of LGBT culture".
Previous holders of the title UK Pride:
2022 Northern Pride: "THAT’S A WRAP! Northern Pride presents UK Pride 2022 has come to an end - and what a weekend it was! We blasted off on Friday with our LAUNCH fundraiser event with some huge names! We kicked the Saturday off with a record break Pride march with over 25,000 people attending! Miss Rory, PlastiQ and guests hosted the main stage with a focus on North East LGBTQ+ talent! Across the festival site attendees enjoyed performances on the Curious Arts stage as well as the Be Scene tent! The Rainbow Village showcased the North East’s best stalls and organisations. Our community village had plenty going on in the Family & Youth zone, the Heath & Wellbeing zone and newbies Sports Zone and LGBT Northern Social Group. We had the most amazing weekend and we couldn’t have done it without YOU! #wearenorthernpride #lgbtq #ukpride22"
2019 Pride in Newry: "All the planning, debating, meetings and patience frayed It all comes down to just a couple of days. Late August in Newry when the weather's hit and miss. Checking the forecast wondering if it's gonna piss(!). Attending events and promo for weeks before. Encouraging people to head to Newry and Mourne. Exclaiming : "Aalto, Richards, B*Witched and Small. All for free! You'll have a ball!" Early starts, Breakfasts from Maccie Dees. Late nights, chocolate and ground coffee beans. Cable ties, duct tape and herrace lugs. But the thing that holds us together is our team's many hugs. Many friends made and few lost along the way. Feeling privileged we aren't persecuted for simply being gay. Remembering ones who have lost their lives fighting for rights and acceptance. Ones also fighting today in the places where it is an offence. Revolutionaries: Gilligan, Milk and McKee. We shall not forget the death of Marsha P. Today's countries where we are murdered for holding the hand of a lover. This fight and our pride is still not over... THANK YOU!"
2018 Isle of Wight Pride: “We feel it very very fitting that we will be celebrating UK Pride 2018, picking up the banner and attempting to reach the same standards that Hull set in 2017. Hull - you are amazing and the Isle Of Wight sends lots of love for your Pride this weekend. We stand shoulder to shoulder with you, marching for those who can’t, fighting for equality and aiming for a day when everybody can say proudly #IOWnMyDestiny. It’s because of UK Pride Organisers Network that #Solidarity between Prides across the UK can happen. This is essential, for small Prides starting out like our own. We have learnt so much from other Pride events across the UK in our last 20 months which have helped us in creating the Isle Of Wight Pride. Without the network, we may have given up in the face of adversity in our first year. The UK Pride Network is an amazing asset to the World Pride movement - this is something worth fighting for and something that needs all of our support and strength to grow. Thank you to every single Pride event across the UK, whether you are a small Pride like our own, or a large City Pride, we stand in solidarity to fight for equal rights for Trans, Bisexuals, Lesbians, Gays, and everyone in our community. #Solidarity #IOWnMyDestiny"
2017 Pride in Hull: "What a week! 50 queer icons paraded through the city centre. Tens of thousands of people at Pride in Hull - the first ever UK Pride - with B*Witched, Marc Almond and Courtney Act. 6 LGBT films screened including the Yorkshire premiere of God's Own Country. 50 years of history on show in the Moment in Time photo exhibition. The first ever Out for a Laugh comedy night. Duckie's incredible Summer Tea Party. I Feel Love with Alison Moyet, Bright Light Bright Light and Will Young. And more rainbows than Hull has ever seen before! You've been beautiful, Hull. Let's do it again soon."
